I've commented about this at length a number of times.
CCP set about to make a game that openly encouraged players to adopt the worst possible conduct. It is the shoot people in the face game, the scamming game, the griefing game. Basically Eve is the place where asshattery is openly celebrated.
CCP has been very successful in creating a game where the worst of everyone comes out to play. CCP actually openly reinforces that this is how they want their gamed played.
Eve has huge groups that focus on what would be in the real world considered immoral, criminal and evil.
When I've talked to folks that have really embraced their asshatness in game and suggested that it says something about them, that if RL didn't have mechanics in place that would present real consequences they would be just as much an asshat in RL as they are in game. I think this years Fanfest proved my point.
I think CCP has created a monster and it will be interesting to see how they react. You have to also ask if the fact Eve is a place where morality is a detriment if that actually is a big part of the subscription ceiling? I think a lot of folks come to Eve wanting a space game and leave when they learn it is also game where horrible behavior is celebrated.
Watching the panel was pretty painful, but honestly, not at all surprising.

Because some idiot pubbie is running around shitposting it everywhere he can. You didn't think this was an actual scandal, did you? This is just a bunch of buttmad pubbies. I really like the parts where people were quoting American law in this thread as if it applies to the entire world.
Not the entire world, but certainly to anyone doing business in America and having customers in America.
